Beach!

We had a lovely long weekend at the beach house.

Lounged a bit...

Took some long walks...

Squished some anemones at low tide...

Giving Thanks

I am thankful for our new fridge paid for by our economic stimulus check for...

...yogurt cups that are not accessible to the 'bee every 20 minutes
...ice cream that is not dripping/oozing/otherwise much more difficult and much less appealing to consume
...ice cubes that are not accessible to the 'bee that end up on the floor as slippery puddles that everyone slips on
...butter that is not squishy
...eggs, deli meat, etc that is not thrown out of the cooler onto the floor every 20 minutes by a 'bee intent on snagging another cup of yogurt
...salads that do not consist entirely of the ginormous arugula that has taken over the planter on the back patio
...not having to get more party ice from the store every 24 hours

I am also very thankful that we were able to continue cooking at home for the better part of 6 days despite having a refrigerator whose digital thermometer was reading 77 degrees during one of the hottest weeks of the year so far.

Whoa Baby!

It's not even noon yet and the 'bee has already polished off nearly 3 cups of Yo Baby. My girl sure does like her yogurt.

Here we are with some two spoon action...

ETA: Normally we would have stopped and offered other things after the first cup but since our refrigerator is down for the count we are using the cooler to keep things from spoiling in this heat. The cooler is at the 'bee's level and now that she is determining the menu it has been all yogurt all the time today.

A great day

Chocolate chip cookies, 3 hour nap and a good night last night. What a great Mother's day it has been.

The baby hours

Parents with small children generally stay close to the nest. Only venturing out to gather necessities for survival. It is a challenge to spot these specimens unless you understand their routines. These are special times when the likelihood of seeing parents with young children out and about are better than average. These are known to us as 'the baby hours'

The first is the mall between 10 and 11:30 am. Sure, there are other people there too, but this is when the majority of parents with small children are out shopping. Or, at least, it is the only time we will go to the mall now.

Typically we've already been up since 7:30, fed the 'bee first breakfast, eaten breakfast ourselves (the 'bee's second breakfast). We try to get there right when the shops open. There are fewer people. We can usually find parking and get in and out faster. We can get a reasonable amount of shopping done before naptime at noon.

The second is at restaurants between 5 and 6:30pm.

Again, the wait time is usually minimal for both seating and service. There is also the need to finish in time to get home for bedtime at 7:15

Perhaps there are more that we are as yet unaware of. If anyone knows of others, please share.
